Some students require additional support at school to manage a medical condition or health care need. Maida Vale Primary School works with parents and carers to understand these needs and put appropriate arrangements in place.
Students who require health care support at school must have a management and emergency response plan appropriate to their needs. This helps staff understand the student’s routine care, medication requirements, support arrangements and the action to take in an emergency.
Depending on the student’s condition, plans may need to be completed or signed by a medical practitioner.
What parents and carers need to do
Please inform the school of any diagnosed medical condition, allergy or health care need that may affect your child during the school day.
You may be asked to provide:
- A Student Health Care Summary.
- A condition-specific management and emergency response plan.
- Medication and emergency equipment, where required.
- Relevant medical documentation and instructions.
- Details of any assistance needed during classroom activities, excursions, camps, sport or other school events.
Please notify the school promptly if your child’s condition, treatment, medication or support requirements change.
Health care plans should be reviewed at least annually and whenever your child’s needs change.
Parents and carers must inform the school if their child has asthma.
An asthma management and emergency response plan should be provided where required. Any medication needed at school must be supplied in accordance with the school’s medication requirements and the student’s documented plan.
Please ensure the school has current instructions and that any required medication is within its expiry date and available in accordance with the plan.
